Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has told Football.London that he wants Oliver Skipp to improve.

Conte made the comments about Skipp following Tottenham’s Premier League game against Brentford tonight.

Spurs won the London derby 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.

Conte was pleased with the display produced by Skipp.

However, the Tottenham boss has publicly said that the 21-year-old midfielder needs to improve and has outlined where.

Antonio Conte’s verdict on Oliver Skipp

Conte told Football.London about Skipp: “Very young. A lot of space for improvement. He played with a lot of heart and soul.

“For me he doesn’t care if he is 21-years-old. Today he played well but I think I can improve him a lot in possession technically, but we are talking about a very important prospect and I am happy for him and now we need to continue to improve him.”

The Spurs head coach added: “This player, without the ball, he works very very hard. For sure, the part he has to improve is on the ball but in one month I have seen a lot of improvement about Skippy.

“He’s a player who wants to improve. The presentation and future depends on him. He can be a top midfielder, but he has to continue to work. He has this will and desire to become an important player.”

Excellent man-management

Skipp had a very good game for Tottenham against Brentford.

The former Norwich City loanee was arguably the best player on the pitch.

For Tottenham at least.

In our view, Conte’s comments outline his fantastic man-management skills.

It would have been easy for the Tottenham boss to go gaga over Skipp after tonight.

Yes, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss has praised the England Under-21 international.

But, it is tempered.

Conte clearly does not want Skipp to get carried away and wants the midfielder to improve.

In our opinion, this is very good, especially for Skipp.

The midfielder is only 21 now, and he will know that for him to get better and to go to the next level, he will have to produce strong performances on a regular basis.
