In the summer, there were suggestions that Silva could have left the Premier League champions, with Arsenal seemingly one of the teams on the radar for his signature, as reported by the Mirror.

And yesterday the Arsenal faithful were just dreaming about what they missed out on.

Silva is proving to be one of the best players in the Premier League right now, with his ability to move out of tight spaces, have an outstanding balance and unbelievable close control.

But his goal yesterday was a prime example as to why he is a Premier League winner because it was a deadly move by Pep Guardiola’s side on the counter-attack.

Gabriel Jesus was in achers of space on the right flank, with the on-rushing Silva all on his own heading towards the penalty area.

And with Silva running towards the edge of the penalty area, he hit Jesus’s cross first time like a thunderbolt past Emiliano Martinez in goal.

The Portugal international has proven for far too long that he is too good to be playing outside of the Champions League, which would have been the case had he moved to the Emirates.

But perhaps all of this was a pipe dream for the Arsenal faithful, as Martin Odegaard was the creative spark signed up on a permanent basis by the club in the summer.

Here is a selection of Arsenal fans reacting to Silva’s performance last night:
