According to Calciomercato, Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle have enquired about Lorenzo Insigne amid his contract dispute with Napoli.

What’s the story?

Well, the £140,000-a-week forward’s contract expires in June, and Napoli are struggling to agree fresh terms with the 53-cap Italy international.

Napoli are offering Insigne €3.5m-a-year (£3m), with an extra €1.5m (£1.3m) in bonuses – it represents a reduction on his existing €5m-a-year (£4.2m) salary.

The 30-year-old is not willing to take a pay cut, which has alerted Spurs, the Hammers and the Magpies to his situation.

So far this season, Insigne has scored five goals in 16 appearances, while also providing six assists.

Evidently, his contract issues are not negatively affecting his form.

You may also remember Insigne from EURO 2020, as he scored two excellent goals in six games to fire Italy to success.

In our view, Insigne would be one of the best free transfers in football history if he does end up leaving Naples for nothing.

The captain of Napoli has scored 173 goals throughout his career, while also providing 108 assists.

Insigne has enjoyed a tremendous career so far, which has seen him win the Coppa Italia twice and the Italian Super Cup, along with EURO 2020.

At 30 years of age, he is still in his prime, and the Premier League trio shouldn’t worry about him declining anytime soon.

The modern footballer appears to last longer at the highest level – just look at Karim Benzema, who’s arguably enjoying his best season aged 33.

If Insigne arrives in the Premier League on a free transfer, it has the potential to be the signing of the decade.
