Jadon Sancho has revealed that Harry Kane ‘annoyed’ him back in 2019, after the Tottenham striker refused to let him take a penalty.
What’s the story?
His first goal for the Three Lions was discussed, which came in a 5-3 win over Kosovo back in September 2019 – Sancho actually scored twice in that game at St Mary’s.
After netting twice, England won a penalty, and Sancho reveals that he asked Kane if he could take it to score his hat-trick.
The 28-year-old Tottenham man said no, before going on to miss the spot-kick – Sancho must’ve been devastated.
Speaking on YouTube, the 21-year-old said: “I was annoyed though, at Harry Kane. He doesn’t know this but there was a penalty and I was on two goals, I looked at him and said ‘bro?’ but he said no.”
Harry Kane should’ve let Jadon Sancho take it
In our view, Kane was wrong to deny Sancho a hat-trick.
Don’t get us wrong, we hate seeing players wrestle the ball from the designated taker and make a drama out of the situation in doing so.
However, the game was all but won against Kosovo in the EURO 2020 qualifier, and how many chances is Sancho going to get to score a hat-trick for England?
Very few, we’d imagine.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has since failed to become a favourite under Gareth Southgate, and spends most of his time with the Three Lions on the bench.
Kane denied Sancho a very special moment, and didn’t even manage to score the spot-kick after doing so.
The Manchester United forward’s revelation was a tongue-in-cheek one, although we feel there’s definitely a bit of truth behind his annoyance.
