It’s been a long old time since Lost in Space last zoomed onto our screens with season 2’s release now almost two years ago.

Understandably, a number of fans are keen to watch the new episodes as soon as they come out, but just when is the release time of Lost in Space season 3 and what will the new instalment entail?

Lost in Space season 2 recap

Season 2 of Lost in Space landed on Netflix back on December 24th, 2019.

The season began with the Robinsons and the crew of the Jupiter 2 craft stranded on an ocean world, seven months after they were separated from their flagship, the Resolute.

Across the episodes, the gang face treachery and danger as they manage to escape the watery hellhole and reunite with their flagship, which they discover had been lying dormant for months.

As Will searches for a robot that could be used to pilot the Resolute, the ship comes under attack by hundreds of alien robot ships.

This leads to an emergency evacuation of the 97 children aboard the Resolute, who are loaded onto a Jupiter craft that escapes through the rift in space.

However, with the Robinsons now separated, the Jupiter craft that just escaped finds itself in an unknown system where the wreckage of Fortuna is found, a ship that went missing 20 years ago and was captained by Judy’s father.

In season 3, the stakes have never been higher for the Robinsons as their survival instincts will be tested like never before.

How many episodes are in season 3?

Season 3 of Lost in Space will consist of eight episodes in total.

Fans of the series may be a little disappointed by that fact as it is two fewer episodes than we saw in both seasons 1 and 2, which had 10 episodes each.

The runtime of each episode is expected to range between 40 minutes to an hour in length.

Not only will season 3 consist of fewer episodes but the new instalment will also bring an end to the show as season 3 has been confirmed as the final chapter.

Speaking to Variety when the show was renewed, Lost in Space showrunner Zack Estrin said: “From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy. A three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end.”

While Lost in Space may be ending, Zack Estrin has signed a deal with Netflix that will see him create more series for the streaming service.

Lost in Space season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix from December 1st, 2021.
