What are the meanings behind their names?

After welcoming Blue Ivy Carter into the world, Beyoncé shared an excerpt from A Field Guide to Getting Lost by Rebecca Solnit where she explained the importance of the colour blue. While she did not confirm this was the reasoning behind her eldest daughter’s name it is highly likely she took inspiration from the novel. But what about the ‘Ivy’ part?

In an interview with Rap Radar, Jay-Z explained the names of his twins Rumi and Sir. He revealed that his daughter Rumi’s name was chosen in honour of the couple’s favourite poet who was a 13th-century Persian lyricist. The rapper went on to explain Sir’s name saying: “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”
