**Warning – Spoilers ahead**

Yellowstone season 4 is offering a lot more than extra spin-offs for the fandom, but it’s also continuing to weave the gripping narrative through a jostling roster of characters, including new arrival Summer Higgins.

Season 4 episode 5, titled ‘Under a Blanket of Red,’ welcomed a handful of guest roles into the narrative alongside Summer, including Kathryn Kelly as Emily and Finn Little as Carter, and the episode also set up one hell of a standoff between Jamie and Garrett.

Who is Summer Higgins?

Episode 5 introduced viewers to Summer Higgins as a lead protester.

Kayce becomes aware of an animal rights protest taking place at the Livestock Department’s office and John arrives on the scene to get a handle on the matter.

John meets with Summer – the one orchestrating the protest – who explains their opposition to the Livestock Department for encouraging animal farming.

John quickly presses charges, which stops the protest and gets Summer arrested. However, John later bails her out.

Who plays the protester?

Summer Higgins is played by Piper Perabo.

The Texas-born actor has graced a number of roles in film and television since her breakout appearance in the 2000 film Coyote Ugly.

Other roles you may know the actor from include, The Big Leap, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and Covert Affairs.

Perabo has a healthy following of 195k on Instagram, where she posts regularly about political and climate updates alongside her professional work.

Is Summer related to the Duttons?

Despite John’s kindness when bailing her out of jail, there is nothing to suggest that Summer is related to the Duttons.

John plans to take Summer back to Yellowstone Ranch in order for her to see how they approach animal handling and convey the importance of their work.

John no doubt has ulterior motives here. By attempting to open Summer’s eyes a little to what they do on the ranch, this could potentially negate any further conflict with Summer’s protests.
