Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed Rangers defender Filip Helander is likely to return to training next month after a lengthy spell out through injury.

Speaking to the press via the club’s official Twitter account, the Dutch manager revealed the Swedish centre-back would be back on the training pitch in December after spending the past few months on the treatment table.

Helander has been injured since September after picking up a knee problem. Yet it appears the return of the defender is on the horizon, with Van Bronckhorst sounding confident the 28-year-old will be back before the end of the year.

The Rangers manager said: “Filip (Helander) is outside on the pitch again and we are slowly bringing him back to fitness levels. Hopefully, we see him return to training in December.”

This injury update will be huge for Van Bronckhorst heading into 2022. Helander was key to Rangers claiming the SPL title last season. The loss of the Scandinavian’s presence at the back has been felt in recent weeks.

However, the former Bologna star is inching towards a return. Helander’s impact on Rangers could be huge after spending so long out. The Scottish giants have kept just two clean sheets in all competitions since the defender’s injury in September
