Giovanni van Bronckhorst has singled out Scott Arfield for praise after his goal for Rangers yesterday.
Rangers picked up a first Scottish Premiership victory under the Dutchman by winning 3-1 at Livingston.
Arfield, making only his second league start of the season, opened the scoring early on and the Gers never really looked in huge trouble.
Steven Gerrard hadn’t been starting the Canada international as often as before.
But there’s no doubting that he’s a big goal threat and here’s what the new light Blues boss said.
He said on Rangers’ YouTube channel: “I think Scott did really well. We needed those runs into the spaces. We knew we could create a lot of danger and I think the first goal was excellent.”
No spring chicken
Arfield is a goal threat, but he’s also 33.
The former Burnley midfielder is getting no younger and it’ll be interesting to see if Rangers look for a long-term alternative in January or next summer.
Despite his age, the veteran, who earns £17,000 per week in Glasgow, remains a big player for the Ibrox club irrespective of Gerrard not using him as much.
But you can only be effective for so long and really, Rangers need to look beyond him long term.
