As Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci gets its theatrical release this November 26th, 2021, moviegoers are learning of the fashion house’s scandalous history.

The film explores the life and death of Maurizio Gucci, the one-time head of Gucci. He was infamously murdered in a 1995 hit orchestrated by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

Many famous faces make up the House of Gucci cast with Lady Gaga taking on the role of Patrizia and Adam Driver as Maurizio. But some viewers were surprised by the appearance of an actor playing a young Tom Ford. The 60-year-old fashion designer has since commented on Scott’s film disputing some of its accuracy. Let’s take a look at Tom’s character in the film and his history with the fashion house.

When did Tom Ford work for Gucci?

Before launching his eponymous fashion house, Tom Ford served as the creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

After working for American designers in the 1980s, Ford set his sights on moving to Europe. In 1990, he was hired by Gucci’s then-creative director Dawn Mello as the brand’s chief women’s ready-to-wear designer. Tom Ford moved to Milan to work with Gucci.
