As Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci gets its theatrical release this November 26th, 2021, moviegoers are learning of the fashion house’s scandalous history.

The film explores the life and death of Maurizio Gucci, the one-time head of Gucci. He was infamously murdered in a 1995 hit orchestrated by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

Many famous faces make up the House of Gucci cast with Lady Gaga taking on the role of Patrizia and Adam Driver as Maurizio. But some viewers were surprised by the appearance of an actor playing a young Tom Ford. The 60-year-old fashion designer has since commented on Scott’s film disputing some of its accuracy. Let’s take a look at Tom’s character in the film and his history with the fashion house.

Who plays Tom Ford in House of Gucci?

A younger Tom Ford is played by Reeve Carney in House of Gucci. The 38-year-old actor and singer is from New York.

Reeve started out acting as a child, landing his first screen role in The Saint of Fort Washington in 1993. Four years later, Reeve Carney joined the cast of Penny Dreadful as Dorian Gray. He starred in 18 episodes from 2014 to 2016.

Reeve Carney appeared at the House of Gucci premiere looking the spitting image of Tom Ford. The designer dressed the actor for the premiere, styling him in Ford’s signature all-black outfit and orange-hued aviator shades.

When did Tom Ford work for Gucci?

Before launching his eponymous fashion house, Tom Ford served as the creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

After working for American designers in the 1980s, Ford set his sights on moving to Europe. In 1990, he was hired by Gucci’s then-creative director Dawn Mello as the brand’s chief women’s ready-to-wear designer. Tom Ford moved to Milan to work with Gucci.

Working his way through the ranks, Tom Ford landed the role of creative director in 1994. This means that Ford worked for four of the years covered in House of Gucci.

He left the company in 2004.
