Celtic are nearing a deal to sign Kawasaki Frontale ace Reo Hatate as Ange Postecoglou again looks towards the Japanese market.

That’s according to The Scottish Daily Mail (27/11. Back page), as they claim that Hatate appears Glasgow-bound in January.

It’s stated that Celtic are ‘well down the road’ with a deal for Hatate, some weeks ahead of the transfer window.

Hatate is out of contract in January and will be able to join Celtic on a free transfer.

Hatate is finishing up with Kawasaki Frontale having just won the J1 League title for the second year in a row.

The 24-year-old was seen in tears whilst celebrating the title win earlier this month, possibly pointing towards his departure.

What are Celtic getting in Hatate?

It’s no surprise to see Celtic dip into the Japanese market again.

Postecoglou was brought in from Yokohama F Marinos whilst Kyogo Furuhashi has been a star since arriving from Vissel Kobe.

Hatate is a versatile performer who can fill in at two main positions for Postecoglou.

Hatate can play in midfield or even at left back – a couple of areas where Celtic do need some reinforcements.

Winning two titles in a row also means Hatate brings what Celtic are looking for – that ability to get over the line and win trophies.

There is of course a step up form Japan to Scotland, but given Hatate’s versatility and his bargain status, Celtic could have a gem.
