Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona central defender Ronald Araujo, according to ESPN.

It has been reported that Liverpool scouts have watched the 22-year-old central defender throughout 2021.

Manchester United are keen on the Uruguay international as well.

The youngster is out of contract at Barcelona in the summer of 2023.

Barcelona are in talks with Araujo over a new deal.

The La Liga club are concerned that amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, they will not be able to meet Araujo’s wage demands.

Would Ronald Araujo make Liverpool better?

Araujo is a very good and promising young central defender who is rated highly by Ronald Koeman.

Koeman recently got sacked by Barcelona, but he enjoyed working with the defender at Camp Nou.

The former Everton defender praised Araujo for his “physique” and described him as “strong” and “fast” in Marca in February 2021.

Now, we know that Liverpool have a number of centre-backs.

Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez all are quality centre-backs.

However, for a club like Liverpool, they always need to find better players.

In our view, scouting Araujo shows that Liverpol are thinking about the future.
