“The father, the son, and the House of Gucci.”

When it comes to the most internationally renowned filmmakers, you have to make mention of Ridley Scott.

The English director has helmed such iconic classics as Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator. Indeed, he continues to impress audiences with such modern efforts as The Martian, All the Money in the World, and The Last Duel.

House of Gucci is his latest and is inspired by the true story detailed in the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.

Lady Gaga portrays Patrizia Reggiani while Adam Driver tackles Maurizio Gucci. Of course, these are real people, as are the supporting players. This includes Pina Auriemma, who plays an important part in the narrative.

But, who exactly is House of Gucci’s Pina?

House of Gucci: Who is Pina?

Real name Giuseppina Auriemma, Pina is a psychic who Patrizia begins to develop a relationship with during her marriage to Maurizio.

In House of Gucci, we see her introduced while giving a reading on the TV, and Patrizia phones in to request her wisdom, asking if she’ll get what she wants.

After this initial encounter, we see them meet up a number of times, with Pina eventually being the one to connect Patrizia to the two hitmen that ultimately orchestrate the murder of Maurizio.

This is accurate to reality. CheatSheet highlights that Pina was actually known for the psychic dial-in tv show depicted in the film.

However, there is actually a change in the timeline. In real life, it’s noted that she and Maurizio met first at a spa, while this occurs much later in the House of Gucci timeline.

Her family background is in food but her psychic abilities were admired a great deal by Patrizia. As their friendship blossomed, Pina even went to work with Gucci at one point, which isn’t touched upon by the movie.

In Sara Gay Forden’s House of Gucci book, it’s explained:

“Patrizia persuaded Maurizio to let Pina open a Gucci franchise in Naples that she operated for several years before turning it over to an associate. Pina was by Patrizia’s bedside when Allegra was born in 1981. After Maurizio left home, Patrizia turned to Pina for consolation.”

She added: “When Patrizia became distraught enough to contemplate suicide, Pina talked her out of it.”

Where is Giuseppina “Pina” Auriemma now?

As the film details, Pina helped Patrizia orchestrate the hit and spoke to a friend of hers, Ivano Savioni, to connect her with the man who would shoot Maurizio.

The two women were eventually arrested and Pina was sentenced to 25 years for her involvement in the crime. However, she only served 13 of them.

So, she has been out of prison for some time now and has spoken out about the whole thing as recently as 2021.

Appearing on a Discovery+ documentary, she revealed that she regretted becoming entangled in the crime and that since their arrest she has not reached out to speak to Patrizia. She explained that she hopes they never meet again.

Who plays her in House of Gucci?

Pina is played by Salma Hayek.

The 55-year-old actress was recently in the MCU blockbuster Eternals (she played Ajak) but is also well known for such movies as Frida, From Dusk Till Dawn, Grown Ups, Dogma, Traffic, and Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.

Other roles include Desperado and The Faculty.

House of Gucci is now in cinemas.
