When did Tony Stark sell Avengers Tower?

It was very briefly mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming that Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) sold Avengers Tower.

Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) was the one to disclose that Tony had sold the tower for reasons unknown.

The tower is thought to have been sold at some point after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Who did he sell it to?

Fans are currently speculating who Tony could have sold the tower to, although no buyer has officially been confirmed yet.

We do, however, have a few clues on who it could be, taking the MCU’s future into consideration.

One possible buyer could be the Fantastic 4. As the quartet already has headquarters close by in the Baxter Building, perhaps this is Marvel’s way of bringing them into the narrative.

Another option is that Norman Osborn bought the building. We know from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films that Oscorp tower was in use and Norman also takes command of the Stark Tower in the comics.

Another option could be Moon Knight. Marc Spector has always been known as the Batman of Marvel, one reason being that he is wealthy enough to buy a tower of that stature off of Tony Stark.

What happened to the tower in the comics?

Stark Tower had a number of occupants within the comic book narratives and was rebuilt several times too.

Acting as a base for Stark, the Avengers, the Mighty Avengers, and more, Stark Tower was even in the hands of Norman Osborn at one point, after he took over S.H.I.E.L.D..

The tower ultimately fell during a battle with Red Hulk but was later rebuilt and dominated by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Golgotha Station.

In Secret Wars, the tower was destroyed by the Children of Tomorrow, and at one point, Tony’s financial struggles forced him to sell the tower to the Chinese company, Qeng Enterprises.
