Antonio Conte has told Football London that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dane Scarlett looks like a ‘great talent’ and he cannot wait to work with him more often.
Scarlett making waves
He appears to be the very pick of the bunch coming through at Spurs currently, with huge excitement building about his future.
Scarlett has scored prolifically at academy level, and now seems to be a regular in senior training.
The teenaged forward may actually have had a chance of playing for Tottenham in their UEFA Conference League match against Mura this evening if he had been fit.
However, Conte revealed yesterday that he is currently carrying a knock.
He said: “Scarlett at this moment is not available. During the international break he had a problem with his ankle and now he’s not available. He’s injured, in the same way like Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso.
“But we’re talking about a young player with great talent and for sure I can’t wait to work with him and to know him much better.”
Making the step up
Scarlett is actually yet to really show his best in a Tottenham shirt at senior level.
When he has been offered chances he has often been played in rotated teams, where he has been starved of service.
But anyone who has seen Scarlett perform for the youth team realises the sheer amount of talent he has.
The youngster also enjoyed an impressive pre-season, where he was used fairly regularly by Nuno.
Scarlett, remarkably, is still only 17 – and his exposure to training alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son so regularly can only be aiding his development.
For all his strengths, Conte actually doesn’t have the best track record at bringing through young talent.
But it seems that Scarlett has already excited him, and his words have to be considered very promising for the Tottenham academy man.
