Emerson Royal has been speaking to Sky Sports about Antonio Conte’s ban on ketchup at Hotspur Way, and he made an interesting revelation.

What’s the story?

Well, ketchup isn’t all Conte has banned from the canteen at Tottenham.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the £25.7m man said: “I do like ketchup! I am used to not eating that though so it is not too much a problem. Butter! The butter is gone too. It is true (Conte) has stressed the importance of our body fat and taking away some food.”

The Tottenham squad can’t really argue with that – butter is 80% fat, so it’s not exactly good for Premier League footballers to be consuming.

However, it’s safe to say the food at Hotspur Way will be drier than the Sahara desert!

Nevertheless, these are wise changes from Conte.

Nutrition is important for anyone, let alone an athlete, and cutting out things like butter will help Spurs obtain a marginal gain over the opponents, as minor as it may be.

Tottenham mean business under Antonio Conte

The Italian clearly doesn’t mess around. Ketchup, mayonnaise and butter have now been axed, and signs of an upturn are showing.

For example, whatever Conte said at half-time against Leeds on Sunday must’ve been special, as Tottenham came out looking like a different side.

As Sky Sports showed, Tottenham had 11 attempts in the second half compared to just two in the first half.

Spurs also hit the woodwork three times, while also hitting four shots on target in the second half, as the pressure eventually paid off and a 2-1 win was secured.

Clearly, Conte is able to fire up his players, which is an important sign to see early on.

As he himself has said before, Conte is a serial winner.

One thing’s for certain – he won’t allow anyone at Tottenham to not get on board with his ideas, no matter what they may be.
