Manchester City must reportedly pay a whopping €315m (£265m) in total if they are to sign Erling Haaland in 2022.
According to Sky Germany, City are in the lead to sign the Borussia Dortmund star. However, when you take into account Haaland’s salary demands as well as the agent fee for Mino Raiola, the total price tag for the transfer exceeds the £250m mark.
With Neymar’s 2017 move to PSG remaining the most expensive transfer in football history at €222m (£200m), Haaland’s potential switch to City would obliterate this record by a good margin.
Indeed, the 21-year-old striker has a release clause that activates in 2022. But it appears that this transfer fee, believed to be around £65m, is only just half the battle for any side looking to sign Haaland next year.
And as per the report, City are the only club in Europe who could realistically sign Haaland next year. With teams in Italy and Spain lacking the finances to sign the striker and sides such as Chelsea and Manchester United already having world-class centre-forwards.
Moreover, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who have a history of poaching Germany’s top players, also can’t afford Haaland. With Robert Lewandowski also in the form of his life after a record-breaking season for the Bavarian giants last campaign.
World-record Haaland transfer will be worth it for City

Even with Haaland’s astronomical financial package, it is likely City could make a move for the Dortmund star next year. With Pep Guardiola’s side in need of a natural striker.
Furthermore, it would be a move that will no doubt work in the long term. With Haaland a player who has the potential to be one of the best strikers of this generation, and that’s an asset City would love to have on their squad.
