The agent of Reading midfielder John Swift has admitted that a move to Premier League outfit Leeds United ‘would be good’ for his client, speaking to LUFC Fan Zone ahead of the January transfer window.
When Marcelo Bielsa likes you, he really, really likes you.
After missing out on Danny James at the eleventh hour (quite literally) during the final day of the January window nearly two years ago, Bielsa jumped at the chance to finally secure his long-term transfer target when Manchester United made him available.
Former Chelsea youngster Swift, meanwhile, was described as a ‘great player’ by the former Argentina, Marseille and Athletic Bilbao coach during Leeds’ promotion-winning campaign.
It was no surprise, then, when The Star reported that Swift was still on Leeds’ radar following a stunning start to the Championship campaign.
Could Reading’s John Swift finally join Leeds United?
“There’s been a lot of speculation in the media about different Premiership clubs being interested in John,” said Swift’s representative.
“At the moment, his sole focus is on playing for Reading and doing the best he can with them.
“Leeds is a great club. Their style of play, manager, and fans would be good for John. (But) no formal approaches have been made that we are aware of by Leeds at this stage.”
The 26-year-old, who has also been linked with Bruno Lage’s Wolves, is due to become a free agent next summer. And the Royals may be forced to cash in after being deducted six points for breaching the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Swift is also understood to be a target for Reading’s Championship rivals Sheffield United.
