Chris Sutton has strongly criticised Rangers central defender Connor Goldson on BBC Radio 5 Live (8:27pm, November 22, 2021).

The former Celtic striker is not impressed by what Rangers defender Goldson said after the Ibrox club’s side defeat at the weekend.

Connor Goldson’s Rangers comments

Rangers suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Hibernian in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.

After the game, the 28-year-old said that the Rangers players have “lost a bit of hunger”, as quoted in talkSPORT.

Chris Sutton’s verdict

Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live (8:27pm, November 22, 2021): “Listening to those comments, they are pretty remarkable words that he has used and this is a player, I think, is out of contract at the end of the season. I think Rangers fans quite rightly are absolutely incensed.”

Damning verdict

As reported by The Daily Record, some Rangers fans are not happy at all by Goldson’s remarks.

The defender, who earns £27,000 per week (SalarySport), should be praised for being brutally honest, but his comments are quite worrying.

Yes, Rangers were successful last season and won the Scottish Premiership title, but that was last season.

For a club like Rangers, they should be achieving success each and every year.

Or at least they should try to.

Goldson and the rest of the Rangers players should do better.

Meanwhile, Sutton has praised Rangers for the way they conducted their managerial search while analysing Manchester United’s current situation.

The former Celtic striker said: “Look what Rangers did. Steven Gerrard left to take over at Aston Villa.

“Ross Wilson had a contingency plan after he left. He said that they had a few options and settled on the best one. That’s what every club does bar one.”

Meanwhile, new Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking forward to facing Celtic in the Old Firm derby.

The Dutchman said, as quoted in The Glasgow Evening Times: “I played in many big games in my career. It was something special – they are special games every season.

“It doesn’t matter what country you are in. The Old Firm is one of the biggest games in football – the same as Feyenoord v Ajax or Barcelona v Real Madrid. I really enjoyed those games. Being the manager in those games will be the same.

“I enjoyed the Feyenoord v Ajax games as the manager of Feyenoord and I’ll be looking forward to the Old Firm games as well because those are special games and ones you want to win definitely.”
