Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Roma talent Nicolo Zaniolo – and he appears to be in something of a war with boss Jose Mourinho.
Corriere dello Sport claim that Zaniolo has in a heated argument with Mourinho at Roma’s training ground last Monday.
It’s thought that Zaniolo is concerned by his role playing as a left-sided winger under Mourinho this term.
Mourinho has then switched his system of late, playing a 3-4-1-2 against Venezia before the international break.
Zaniolo didn’t start in that game, and it’s unclear just where he fits into the team right now.
The 22-year-old is thought to be angry with his situation and had it out with Mourinho last week.
Players don’t usually come out form arguments with Mourinho well, but the Roma boss is thought to still value Zaniolo highly.
After two major knee injuries, Zaniolo is now looking to get back to his best.
In 10 starts this season, Zaniolo is yet to pick up a goal or assist in Serie A. Mourinho praised Zaniolo last month, but Tottenham may now be watching with interest.
Calciomercato reported in September that Fabio Paratici wants to bring Zaniolo to Tottenham.
New Tottenham boss Antonio Conte had been linked with signing Zaniolo for Inter Milan, whilst Zaniolo admitted earlier this year that, whilst playing in a 3-5-2 isn’t ideal for him, he would do it for Conte.
If Zaniolo remains out of the Roma team and relations with Mourinho continue to be frayed, Tottenham may be able to pounce.
