Speaking on the Ringer FC Podcast, Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was absolutely wrong about Aaron Ramsdale.
To be fair to Carragher, he wasn’t the only one who misjudged Ramsdale. It looked ridiculous when Arsenal spent £23m on a goalkeeper who had been relegated in back to back seasons with Bournemouth and Sheffield United, but he’s quickly proved his doubters wrong.
Indeed, since taking Bernd Leno’s spot as the Gunners’ number one, Ramsdale has gone from strength to strength.
What’s been said?
Carragher spoke about Ramsdale.
“The keeper, I mean, if I’ve ever been wrong about a player more than Aaron Ramsdale, I don’t know who it is yet. It’s still early days, but I remember that last minute goal vs Palace and he ran from one end of the other to get involved with the celebrations. I thought there are little things with these young lads coming together and it reminded me of us at Liverpool under Gerard Houllier,” Carragher said.

Proving everyone wrong
Ramsdale isn’t just proving Carragher wrong.
The 23-year-old was written off by many when he joined Arsenal, but he’s now looking like he’s worth every single penny.
Of course, it’s easy to point towards his save from James Maddison’s free-kick against Leicester as the defining moment of his Arsenal career so far, but even that would be doing him a disservice.
Ramsdale has been consistently solid for the Gunners and he absolutely earned that first England cap he got earlier this week.
