Glenn Hoddle has stated that Tottenham duo Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso ‘don’t understand the game’, as he told talkSPORT (18/11/21 at 9:30 am).
The Spurs legend stated that the duo ‘have to improve’ and provide that much-needed creativity needed at Hotspur Way.
Since Christian Eriksen’s departure, there has been a huge void in Tottenham’s creative room and it hasn’t been matched by whoever has sat in that role.
Dele Alli has fallen off a cliff, Ndombele dances around for 20 minute periods before fading away, whilst Lo Celso simply hasn’t showcased enough since joining in 2019.
That hasn’t helped the club’s cause, nor has it helped someone like Harry Kane, who just can’t help himself dropping back.
But Hoddle feels it’s those around Kane that need to step up, as he spoke about their midfield.
“Other players have got to improve,” said Hoddle. “Their midfield is not right. Hojbjerg is an excellent player, as a holding player.
“You then got to have midfield creativity. There are players there that are so-called (creative players). Lo Celso and Ndombele, they have to improve.
“For me, I don’t see them as an overall player that’s going to be consistent or is going to create. That knows the game. They don’t understand the game in many ways, as I see it.
“Ndombele, particularly the way I see it. He has wonderful skills. But he is a player that is too much off-the-cuff. He does some wonderful things with the football, but we all used to do that in the playground, didn’t we?”

Kane would just love to have a player of Hoddle’s ilk weaving his magic in that final third right now.
It’s exactly what Spurs need and it’s something that would elevate them into huge, huge heights if they could get a creative mind through their doors.
Now, they would do seriously well to get someone at the level that Hoddle used to play at, but they can still knock on doors across Europe.
But that requires the club putting their hands deep into their pockets, something Daniel Levy hasn’t previously done and he simply has to do under Antonio Conte.
