Dave Edwards wants Liverpool young gun, Neco Williams, to go out on loan to ‘earn some more game time’, as he told Sky Sports Football (16/11/21 at 10:05 pm).

The former Wales international stated that Williams was his country’s ‘best player’ during the international break, which included outperforming the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale.

Wales coach Rob Page used the Anfield academy product as a left-sided wing-back and he thrived in that role during the past 10 days.

He scored for his country during their thumping win against Belarus last week and then produced a Man of the Match display against Belgium on Tuesday during their final World Cup qualifier.

Edwards thinks his fellow countryman is ‘turning into a top player’ and thinks he needs to leave in order to get more minutes under his belt.

“He’s going to be in this Wales team for a very, very long time,” said Edwards. “He’s cemented his place into the team also.

“He came onto the scene about a year ago, made a big impact, then it went quiet for him. But these last few games, he has been Wales’ best player.

“Hopefully, he can start playing more at club level. Liverpool is a great place for him to be. But he might need to go out on loan and get some more games.

“He’s turning into a top player. What I said is that you don’t get many wing-backs who like to make things happen like he does. He’s all action. And he’s a good defender. Bright future for Neco.”

There could be an argument that Williams should be used a lot more by Jurgen Klopp when he needs to rest Trent Alexander-Arnold.

When the England international was recently out of action, it was James Milner who filled that void.

Perhaps it is time for Williams to be pushed into that deep end because he’s too good to be lounging around with the younger age groups now.

He is proving his worth on the international stage, cutting his cloth with some of the best and playing a big role in his country possibly heading towards next year’s World Cup.
