Kanye West recently squashed his beef with Drake to host the Free Larry Hoover concert. But, why does the rapper want to free the inmate?

Kanye and Drake’s longstanding beef finally came to an end after their recent meetup. Fans went berserk after seeing the duo’s picture from their rendezvous at Dave Chapelle’s show.

However, there is a bigger cause at play that has become the reason for the two to make peace with one another. Both Kanye and Drake are trying to free Larry.

Why does Kanye West want to free Larry Hoover?

For the unversed, Larry is an inmate serving six life sentences at Colorado’s ADX Florence prison. He has been sentenced for his alleged involvement in a 1973 gang-affiliated murder.

Larry was reportedly sentenced to 150 to 200 years in prison in 1995 for the murder of a 19-year-old drug dealer. However, the popular opinion about the incarcerated man is changing now.

Like many, Kanye believes that Larry has served enough time for his alleged crime. During his recent appearance on Drink Champs, the rapper was asked what motivated him to get involved in Larry’s case.

Replying to this, the 44-year-old said, “having economic and political freedom.” The rapper also said “I got involved cause all my n***a is GD,” implying that he has friends who are a part of Gangster Disciples.

The Donda rapper has been rallying for Larry’s release for years now. According to TMZ, Drake has also been lobbying to aid the inmate’s release. Both artists recently came to a decision to join forces to help the 70-year-old.

Larry’s case explored

Larry is reportedly the gang leader and co-founder of Chicago’s street gang, Gangster Disciples. In 1995, after a 17-year investigation into his enterprise, he received a life sentence.

The most scandalous case that was unearthed at the time was the murder of William “Pooky” Young, a 19-year old neighbourhood drug dealer. It was alleged that the 1973 killing was ordered by Larry.

Ye and Drake end beef to help the inmate

On Nov. 8, J Prince, the Rap-A-Lot CEO, posted a video featuring Kanye on his social media accounts.

The rapper is seen reading a pre-written message from his phone. “This is Ye and J Prince,” the star begins. “I’m making this video to address the ongoing back and forth between myself and Drake. Both me and Drake have taken shots at each other and it’s time to put it to rest.”

The singer then put forth his offer to the Certified Lover Boy maker saying “I’m asking Drake on Dec. 7 to join me on stage as a special guest with the ultimate purpose to free Larry Hoover.”

The Praise God singer also said, “I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride to the side and come together.”

It looks like Drake has finally accepted Kanye’s offer.
