According to Calciomercato, Tottenham and West Ham have asked for information about Weston McKennie, who is free to leave Juventus.

What’s the story?

Well, Tottenham and West Ham are said to have been left encouraged by what Juventus told them in response to their enquiry.

Calciomercato believe Juventus told the Londoners they want €30m – €35m (£25m – £29m) for the 28-cap United States international.

Apparently, that is a sum which does not scare Spurs or the Hammers, so in our view, we could have a bidding war on our hands in January.

Calciomercato add that other Premier League clubs have also enquired about McKennie – unfortunately, they are not named.

Nevertheless, there are clearly many clubs eyeing the 23-year-old, who Massimiliano Allegri is happy to part with for the right price.

What could Weston McKennie offer Tottenham or West Ham?

Having spent his entire career playing in Germany and Italy, English fans may not know too much about McKennie.

In that respect, a comparison may be appreciated.

American ‘soccer’ icon Alexi Lalas once likened McKennie to Gennaro Gattuso and N’Golo Kante, which gives you a good idea of the type of midfielder he is – combative.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Lalas said: “McKennie has something of Gattuso but also of (N’Golo) Kante and (Arturo) Vidal. As they say here: beauty and the beast both serve to win.”

If McKennie can become even 50% of the player Kante is, then Tottenham and West Ham must waste no time in trying to sign him.

At 23, the American will surely only get better.

Keep an eye on this saga, with the Premier League duo seemingly happy to meet the Serie A side’s asking price.
