Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing that Michael Oliver would officiate this Saturday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, the Arsenal fans certainly aren’t happy with this news.

Oliver will oversee proceedings at Anfield, with Chris Kavanagh on VAR duty as the Gunners look to beat the Reds.

So, why do the Arsenal fans have an issue with the 36-year-old?

Well, their frustration could be down to the fact Oliver was in charge of Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leicester on October 30th, in which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was hauled down by Jonny Evans when through on goal.

Bizarrely, Oliver only saw fit to brandish a yellow card.

Additionally, Arsenal have a poor record when Oliver is officiating.

In 44 games under his watchful eye, the Gunners have won just 19, losing 15 while drawing ten times.

Arsenal can still beat Liverpool

Despite Oliver overseeing the game, Arsenal should still have the confidence to beat Liverpool.

Jürgen Klopp’s side recently had their 25-game unbeaten run ended by West Ham, so Mikel Arteta should take confidence from that in particular.

Also, the north Londoners find themselves ten games unbeaten, winning eight of those outings – the Gunners are flying.

Interestingly, Oliver has only officiated Liverpool more times than Arsenal throughout his career, with 47 and 44 games refereed respectively.

Regardless of how Oliver performs, Arsenal can certainly get three points at Anfield this Saturday with confidence high at London Colney.
