Galatasaray are trying to take Mohamed Elneny away from Arsenal in January on a free transfer, Fanatik in Turkey report

Leaving Arsenal on a free?

Elneny apparently wants to leave the Emirates and has indicated to the Turkish side that he would sign for them.

The Gunners are also keen not to stand in his way, with a move now being lined up.

The deal is very close to being agreed, although the fee is something which has not yet been finalised.

Arsenal may be hoping to raise some funds for Elneny, but Gala want him on a free transfer.

Whether the Turkish side will get their wish remains to be seen, but Arsenal are hardly in a strong bargaining position.

Elneny’s contract expires at the end of the campaign and he has barely played this season to raise his value.

No great loss?

Elneny, who Mikel Arteta once called ‘fantastic (Football London), has fallen further down the pecking order with the Gunners this term following the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Arteta now also seems to prefer to use Ainsley Maitland-Niles over the Egyptian enforcer.

He shouldn’t be a great miss to Arsenal if he does depart.

Elneny has been a reliable covering option since joining the Gunners, but he has never really shown the quality required to become a permanent starter.

If he does leave Arsenal he will do so having made 127 appearances for the Gunners and scoring five goals, across a six year period.
