Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose hailed the ‘exceptional’ rumoured Newcastle target Conor Gallagher after he earned his first England call this week, as they told talkSPORT.
After a string of strong performances in a Crystal Palace shirt, those in the senior ranks for England came knocking and added him with the elite footballers in this country.
All of this is only adding to his stock because the Chelsea loanee is now a wanted man, including by the now mega-rich Newcastle United, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Of course, he is still on Chelsea’s books and thriving in Palace colours, so he won’t be moving anywhere any time soon.
But former Palace man Ambrose now thinks that Gallagher might be worth ‘£50 million’ because his England call had inflated his price.
“He has been exceptional,” said Bent. “I saw him a long time ago, when he was at Charlton, where he was fantastic there.
“His progression every season he is getting better and better.”
Ambrose added: “Fully deserved (England call). Against Albania or San Marino, if you are picking a squad, why not pick players like Conor Gallagher? He has proven week in and week out that he can do it. He’s a real breath of fresh air.
“I have seen so much evidence that he is a future regular for England. I think he could go back to Chelsea and play – the England call has put an extra value on him. The going rate for young English talent is £50 odd million. I think that would be an absolute snip.”

Given the performances Gallagher is putting in at Selhurst Park, some would think that Chelsea might keep him on board.
But they have a conveyor belt of talent coming through their ranks and they have proven before that, at the right price, they are willing to sell.
If Gallagher’s performances continue to shine bright under Patrick Vieira then they will probably have first hit on the player if he is allowed to leave Chelsea on a permeant basis.
But could the big money from Newcastle lure Gallagher towards the North East? Either way, for the Toon Army faithful, they will be glad they can now at least have these conversations.
