Thiago Alcantara hasn’t been a roaring success at Liverpool.
The former Barcelona midfielder joined Liverpool in a £20 million deal from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020.
But between injuries, COVID-related absences and inconsistent form, it hasn’t been a miraculous year-and-a-bit at Anfield for the Spain international.
And according to one journalist, Thiago is interested in going back to Camp Nou.
Pedro Almeida claimed on Twitter that the Liverpool midfielder does not ‘close the door’ on a return to Barcelona, where Xavi is now head coach.
Concern
And honestly, this is a big worry for Liverpool fans.
That’s because the same journalist earlier in the week tweeted about how Dani Alves would be going back to the Catalan giants.
And what was announced on Friday? Alves’s return to Barca.
So if Almeida feels that Thiago – who earns £800,000 per month in England – could be lured from Liverpool, it has to be taken seriously.
Jurgen Klopp and the supporters have nothing to worry about until January at the earliest.
Even if the Spaniard hasn’t been a huge hit on Merseyside, Klopp’s midfield options – or lack of – means that Thiago is a very big part of this squad.
And simply put, it could be disastrous if Liverpool – who lost Gini Wijnaldum last summer without replacing him – sell Thiago.
