Newcastle United are facing a problem in their quest to sign Leeds United target Ross Barkley from Chelsea, according to Eurosport.
What’s the story?
Eurosport have reported that Newcastle are interested in signing Barkley from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
However, many Premier League clubs do not want to do transfer dealings with the Magpies.
The reason for that, according to the report, is that ‘there is a general feeling of ill-will about their takeover – and also the harm they could inflict on their own clubs by helping Newcastle avoid relegation this season’.
This means that a transfer for Barkley is ‘suddenly in severe doubt before any progress has been made’.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) recently bought Newcastle from Mike Ashley.
Newcastle striker Callum Wilson described the former Everton attacking midfielder as “unreal” and “unbelievable” on the Super Six podcast in February 2021.

Advantage Leeds United?
Earlier this week, TEAMtalk reported interest in attacking midfielder Barkley from Newcastle and Leeds.
Now, with the Magpies’ chances of signing the 27-year-old reportedly looking slim, in our view, the advantage is clearly with Leeds.
Of course, we know that Chelsea will have to be open to offloading Barkley.
And the former Aston Villa loanee himself will also have to be convinced to move to Elland Road.
However, based on this report in Eurosport, it does appear that Leeds are unlikely to face competition from Newcastle.
