According to EuroSport, Newcastle United are interested in Nathan Ake.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that the Magpies are in for Ake. After all, the Dutchman is seemingly surplus to requirements at Manchester City and he’s one of Eddie Howe’s old favourites.
Indeed, Howe worked with Ake at Bournemouth and during the pair’s time on the south coast, the Englishman had plenty of good things to say about the defender.
What’s been said?
The Newcastle gaffer spoke to the Bournemouth Echo about Ake during his time at the Vitality Stadium.
“Am I surprised in interest in Nathan? No, because he’s been a model of consistency. I think he has performed very well for us for a long, long period of time,” Howe said.
“He’s been outstanding for us from the moment he’s signed. Not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.
“He is going to have a big, big part to play in our remaining games in our battle to stay in the Premier League.”
Howe went on to speak about how he managed Ake, commenting on the fact he changed positions under his tutelage.
“I know historically for Chelsea he had played a number of positions. For us, when we signed him, we saw him as a centre-back.
“There was a slight time just to convert him in that position but, since he signed, he’s been absolutely brilliant.”

Excellent signing
There’s every reason to believe that Ake could be a fantastic signing for Newcastle.
Howe loves him and the Englishman also knows how to get the best out of the defender – his time at Bournemouth prompted City to pay £40m for the Dutchman.
The left-footer really suits Howe’s style and if he came in he’d shore up the Magpies’ shaky backline.
This certainly seems to be a situation to keep an eye on.
