Celtic captain Callum McGregor lauded the ‘absolutely first-class’ Nathan Patterson for the Rangers right-back’s performance as Scotland beat Moldova 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier.
Patterson broke the deadlock at the Stadionul Zimbru on Friday night with a brilliant finish on his weaker foot. And later turned provider by laying the ball on a plate for Che Adams.
Steve Clarke awarded Patterson only his third Tartan Army start in six appearances for the Group F tie. A decision that paid out, with the 20-year-old getting his first goal and assist.

Patterson’s night took a sour note when referee Srdjan Jovanovic pointed to the spot after a VAR review. Deeming Patterson to have handled the ball after watching several replays.
Scotland’s win in Moldova secured Clarke’s men a spot in the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup. They can now put on a show at home to Denmark on Monday without needing a win.
Rangers’ Patterson impresses Celtic’s McGregor in Scotland win
Patterson’s impressive display in Moldova also left a mark on Celtic midfielder McGregor, who believes the Rangers right-back has shone from his first day in the Scotland set up.
“He’s been absolutely first-class,” McGregor said, via quotes by the Glasgow Times. “You can tell he’s a real talent – even from the first day he trained with us in the summer.

“You could see his quality, his athleticism. And it’s great to see him make such a big impact, getting off the mark with a goal.
“He needs to just keep his head down and keep working hard. Other experienced boys will keep him on the right track, keep him honest.
“But he’s already made a great start to his international career. He’s been excellent.”
Scotland have now won each of their last five international games, with Patterson featuring in four and starting three.
The 6 ft 2 full-back will now hope to play frequently for Rangers under whoever replaces Steven Gerrard as manager.
The Glasgow native has only started four of six domestic appearances so far this season for 356-minutes in total.
With just 114 of those minutes and three outings, one start, coming in the Premiership under the now-Aston Villa boss.
