David Ornstein has said on Sky Sports News (7:37am, November 12, 2021) that the Liverpool owners would not have appointed Steven Gerrard as the Anfield club’s manager straight from Rangers.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) would not have got Gerrard straight from Ibrox club Rangers.
Gerrard has been appointed as the new Aston Villa manager.
The former Liverpool midfielder left his role at Rangers.
Gerrard guided the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title last season.
What David Ornstein has said
Ornstein said on Sky Sports News (7:37am, November 12, 2021): “One thing with Liverpool’s owners, the FSG, is that they have not guaranteed anybody the job and although there is a clear ambition for Gerrard to go and work at Liverpool and many Liverpool fans would love to see it, I don’t think Liverpool owners are the sentimental type that will just watch him do well at Rangers and say, ‘in you come’. And Gerrard would have been acutely aware of that.”

Aston Villa stepping stone to Liverpool?
Villa are a massive club who are established in the Premier League.
There will be high expectations of Gerrard at Villa, and the former Rangers manager will have to do his best.
In our view, leaving Rangers for Villa is only going to enhance Gerrard’s chances of managing Liverpool in the future.
After all, the Liverpool owners will be able to follow the Englishman closely and monitor his progress regularly.
Rangers are a massive club, but the Scottish Premiership is not at the level of the Premier League.
However, we must also note that Jurgen Klopp is doing extremely well at Liverpool now and is unlikely to leave anytime soon.
