The Home Alone franchise has been a staple of the festive season since the original film first released way back in 1990.

Since then, the list of sequels and spin-offs has continued to grow and Disney’s first attempt at reviving the film franchise comes in the form of Home Sweet Home Alone.

Release date and plot

Home Sweet Home Alone arrived on Disney+ on Friday, November 12th, 2021.

The film tells the story of Max Mercer, a mischievous and resourceful young boy who, in the spirit of Home Alone, gets left behind while his family jets off to Japan for the holidays.

However, Max isn’t left on his own for long as a struggling married couple set their sights on Max’s home as they break in and go in search of a priceless heirloom that they believe he stole.

As well as the licensed songs used throughout, Home Sweet Home Alone also makes use of a cinematic score composed by John Debney.

The California-born Debney has been composing music for films and TV shows since the 1980s with notable works including Elf, The Scorpion King and The Greatest Showman as well as a host of Disney films such as Hocus Pocus, The Jungle Book (2016) and The Emperor’s New Groove.

John Debney’s score, which quotes the legendary John Williams’, adds to the mischievous nature of the film and is available to stream on the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.

Home Sweet Home Alone is available to stream now on Disney+ after releasing on November 12th, 2021.
