Aaron Ramsdale says that Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ‘very quiet’ but as soon as he gets together with Emile Smith Rowe in Arsenal training he is hilarious.

Arsenal insights

Speaking on the Tubes and Ange Golf Life channel, Ramsdale shed some insight into the characters in Arsenal’s dressing room.

He revealed that Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are often making the entire squad crack up, and that the team spirit in camp is great right now.

And when talking about the funniest players at Arsenal, Smith Rowe and Maitland-Niles also got a mention.

“Emile doesn’t try to be funny, but he’s a funny, funny boy. Him and Ainsley bounce off each other,” Ramsdale said.

“Ainsley is very quiet but those two together are very funny. We have a good group at the moment and results and performances are going well, so it makes it a lot happier.”

Playing for his future

It was not certain that Maitland-Niles would even be part of the Arsenal squad heading into the season.

However, the Gunners midfielder has forced his way back into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Maitland-Niles actually started in Arsenal’s last game before the international break, as they picked up a 1-0 win over Watford.

Whether he will retain that spot for the long-term remains to be seen, but his performance did earn great praise.

Arsenal’s next outing comes against Liverpool so it would be real show of faith if Arteta selected him for that contest.

One player who is almost certain to play is Ramsdale.

The Arsenal stopper has quickly become the club’s number one choice in goal after signing in the summer.

Ramsdale initially was brought in as back-up at Arsenal, but he has surpassed all expectations and has been one of the Gunners’ best players so far this term.
