According to Rocìo Rodriguez, Crystal Palace are still keen to sign Borja Mayoral, after expressing an interest in the striker over the summer.
What’s the story?
Well, Rodriguez was speaking on Radio Bruno about Mayoral, where Crystal Palace were mentioned.
The journalist was actually asked about Fiorentina’s chances of signing the 24-year-old, before telling fans to ‘beware’ of Crystal Palace.
As quoted by Viola News, Rodriguez said: “Real don’t want to lend him, they only sell him outright but Fiorentina are ready to make an offer. Mayoral would be happy to come to Florence because he appreciates the Italian game, but watch out for the Crystal Palace who are very interested since last summer”.
In our view, it’s quite interesting that the Eagles retain an interest in Mayoral, as his form has nosedived this season.
The Spaniard is yet to score in seven appearances under José Mourinho at Roma this season, as he spends another season on loan from Real Madrid.
Clearly, the fact Crystal Palace remain interested shows they have faith in Mayoral’s ability.
What could Borja Mayoral offer Crystal Palace?
Well, despite his struggles this season, the Selhurst Park faithful can expect goals from Mayoral.
Last term, the Spaniard scored 17 goals in all competitions for Roma, as he began to show why there was so much fuss about him as a youngster.
Mayoral scored 15 goals in just 14 appearances for Real Madrid’s Under-19 side, which led to Zinedine Zidane making a very bold comparison.
The legendary Frenchman likened the Crystal Palace target to former Real Madrid and Spain striker Raul, who scored 384 goals throughout his career.
On that note, the south Londoners could be getting a real gem, who still seems to have plenty of room for development.
