Since The Resident returned for season 5 back in September, the Fox series has undergone some huge changes.
Not only has the show bid farewell to Emily VanCamp’s Nic but it has also seen a time jump of three years into the future which has left a number of characters in different jobs and mindsets.
Following the death of his wife, the fate of Conrad Hawkins has also been heavily debated by fans with many asking if the character is leaving The Resident in season 5.
The Resident season 5 recap
Season 5 of The Resident began airing on Fox on September 21st and there have been several twists and turns since then.
The biggest twist to come in the season so far came when Emily VanCamp’s Nic bid farewell to the series after she was killed off following a devastating car accident.
Nic’s husband, Conrad, was left devastated by the incident which also resulted in him becoming a single parent to their daughter, Gigi.
However, season 5 would not be focusing on a grieving Conrad as the ending of episode 5 saw The Resident make a surprise time jump, roughly three years into the future where even more has changed.
Is Conrad leaving The Resident?
No, Conrad Hawkins is not leaving The Resident just yet.
However, in episode 6 following the time jump, it is revealed that Conrad is no longer working at Chastain Hospital as he has a new role as a concierge doctor at a private practice.
Conrad’s new role is thanks to his daughter as the more relaxed working environment allows him to take better care of Gigi.
But when Conrad refers a patient with suspected terminal lung cancer to Chastain, the ensuing visit proves to be ‘the best day he’s had in a long time,’ suggesting that he’s not quite finished at Chastain.
More to come for Conrad
While Conrad may have left Chastain for the time being, The Resident’s showrunners appear to have big plans for Matt Czuchry’s character for the rest of season 5.
Speaking to TVLine, The Resident’s co-showrunner, Peter Elkoff, revealed details about some of the storylines that are in store for Conrad in season 5, most notably a new love interest.
“[Conrad and Nic] were such a beloved couple, and she was arguably the love of this character’s life,” Elkoff explained. “He will end up with somebody, but not until we get closer to the end of the season.”
“We’re going to try and pepper the episodes with moments of connection and collaboration and emotional moments with different people, where you feel like you’ve seen the beginning of something, and you may be right, or you may be wrong,” Elkoff teased.
Season 5 of The Resident continues weekly on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
