Pakistani activist and global icon for women’s rights Malala Yousafzai recently married Asser Malik during a small ceremony in Birmingham.

Who is Malala Yousafzai’s husband?

Campaigner for girls’ education and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, 24-year-old Malala Yousafzai announced her marriage to Asser Malik via social media on 9 November 2021.

@malala took to both Instagram and Twitter with details of her wedding:

“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

In 2012, at the age of 15, Yousafzai survived being shot by a Taliban gunman in her native Pakistan, according to The Hindu.

Malala has since become a global icon for women’s rights. 

Get to know Asser Malik

According to Asser Malik‘s LinkedIn profile, the newlywed is currently serving as the General Manager High Performance at Pakistan Cricket Board.

Asser is from Lahore District, Punjab, Pakistan, as per his location listed on the platform.

Described as an entrepreneur with a demonstrated history of working in the sports industry, the General Manager joined his current organisation in May 2020.

Asser reportedly brought the world’s largest amateur cricket league in Pakistan and is now the LMS co-founder.

Ahead of his career, he received a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science in 2012 from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). 

Although incomparable to his wife’s social media following of more than two million users, @asser.malik has over 5,000 followers on Instagram.

Malik also took to Instagram to share a wedding photograph of himself Malala, captioned with a simple red-heart emoji.

Over on Twitter, @MalikAsser is described as a forever fan of Newcastle United Football Club and often shares sporting content onto the timeline.

Daily Mail reports that earlier this year, Malala’s father Ziauddin Yousafzai said he would allow her to choose her own partner to marry.

Malala is shown in wedding photographs wearing a beautiful pink bridal Nikah while her husband wore a matching pink tie, white shirt and a suit.

In the social media caption, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner in history credited her bridal makeup artist, @makeupbyain.

Photographer and visual journalist @malinfezehai captured their special day and shared immese gratitude onto Instagram.

Malin Fezehai described the wedding as an intimate gathering of family and friends in Birmingham, celebrating Malala and Asser’s union.
