Liverpool are considering recalling defender Rhys Williams from his loan spell at Swansea City due to a lack of first-team action in South Wales.

That’s according to a report from The Sunday Mirror (07/11, p70), as they claim that Liverpool aren’t too happy right now.

Williams was sent to Swansea to play first-team football and Russell Martin is leaving him out on a regular basis.

Williams has started just two Championship games and come off the bench in another, meaning he has played just 140 minutes of league action this season.

The Liverpool talent has played just four minutes since the end of September, and the Reds may have had enough.

It’s suggested that Liverpool may recall Williams in January, most likely to send him on loan elsewhere.

Terms agreed in the loan mean Swansea face financial penalties for not playing Williams enough, and a departure in January seems likely.

Williams, 20, managed 19 first-team appearances for Liverpool last season in a shock rise.

Having spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Kidderminster Harriers, few really expected Williams to break through so quickly.

After showing potential under Jurgen Klopp, Williams will have been hoping for a big season this term – but it’s not coming at Swansea.

A move elsewhere in January could help, with Liverpool unlikely to just let him sit on the bench at Swansea.
