Aston Villa fans have hit out at Frederic Guilbert after he posted a hushing face emoji following Dean Smith’s sacking on Sunday.
The Villa right-back, who is currently out on loan, was signed by the club when they were in the Championship and then officially joined up with the squad when they won promotion.
This is what he first posted, which didn’t go down well with the fans.
Guilbert did play a significant number of games for Villa in their first campaign back in England’s top-flight.
But, after that, he was loaned out on several occasions and fell out of favour with Smith.
Villa fans think that the tweet was directed at Smith, even though he then later posted ‘not for Villa’ straight after.
Depending on what you believe, some of the fans think it was directed at Smith and he is now trying to clear up what he initially posted.
Either way, it was seriously poor timing from the right-back.
Even though Guilbert would have felt harshly treated in B6, and many fans agree, this isn’t the way to get into their good books.
If it was indeed a mistake, then it’s come at a poor time, if it was directed at Smith, then fans will clearly take one side and one side only, and that’s towards their sacked manager.
Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Guilbert’s tweet:
