Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told Football.London that Nuno Tavares has been exceptional for his side.
Arteta made the comments following Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Watford at the Emirates Stadium today.
Emile Smith Rowe scored the only goal of the Premier League game in the 56th minute.
Tavares started at left-back.
Kieran Tierney is the first-choice left-back for Arsenal, but the Scotland international was on the bench.
The former Celtic star has been struggling with injury problems lately.
Arteta told Football.London: “Well, Nuno is playing because he deserves to play.
“He’s been exceptional since he’s been given the opportunity, but I cannot say anything different with Kieran.
“This is what we need. Two top players that are raising the level in the position.”

Growing in importance
When Tierney is fully fit and available, he plays for Arsenal.
Let’s make no mistake about that.
However, Tavares is making a case for himself.
The 21-year-old is very good going on the attack and is solid defensively as well.

The Portugal Under-21 international joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer transfer window.
Tavares has hit the ground running at the Gunners, and his progress has been remarkable.
The Arsenal no. 20 has made three starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
The youngster has made two starts and one substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup this season.
