Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told The London Evening Standard that Bernd Leno is disappointed that he is not playing at the moment.

Arteta has said that Leno needs to raise his level to get into the Arsenal team ahead of Aaron Ramsdale.

The Arsenal boss has added that the Germany international goalkeeper – who earns £100,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac – is playing his role in helping Ramsdale get better.

Arteta said: “When you have experience with Bernd over the last three years, who he is as a person, I didn’t have any doubts. He is disappointed and he should be disappointed because he wants to play and is used to playing.

“But at the same time what he needs to do is raise his level. He is going to raise Aaron’s level and if Aaron is performing really well, a big part of that is because Bernd is next to him, trying to help him, trying to support him and trying to make him a better goalkeeper. That is exactly what we want.”

Bernd Leno set for further disappointment

In our view, Leno will be disappointed in the coming weeks and months.

Ramsdale is clearly the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal.

That is unlikely to change anytime soon.

The Englishman is making some wonderful saves and is very commanding between the posts.

Ramdale is also much better with his feet than Leno.

Now, Leno is a good goalkeeper.

We cannot ignore that.

However, Ramsdale is better and is also much younger.

We should not be surprised if Leno does not play again in the Premier League for Arsenal this season.

Perhaps the German could even leave in the summer of 2022
