David Ornstein has claimed in The Athletic that Eddie Howe will sign a contract with Newcastle United today.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Howe will put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal today.

The former Bournemouth manager will then attend Newcastle’s Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion this evening.

The report in The Athletic was published at 10:28pm last night.

Exciting times ahead at Newcastle

As stated in the report, Newcastle’s new owners actually wanted Unai Emery to succeed Steve Bruce.

However, the former Arsenal boss is staying at Villarreal.

Now, Howe may not have been the first choice for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), but he is a very good manager.

The Englishman established Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Newcastle are in relegation battle at the moment, and Howe has experience of that.

The Magpies do have a decent squad, and with some additions in the January transfer window, they will be better equipped to stay in the Premier League.

In our view, with Howe as the manager, Newcastle will survive the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
