Bernardo Silva delivered a masterclass as Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday, to earn rave reviews from Citizens fans on social media.

Pep Guardiola deployed the Portuguese maestro as a false-nine in search of glory in the Manchester derby.

Man City visited Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils on the back of defeat to Crystal Palace last time out. But produced a commanding display to bounce back to winning ways.

Manchester United were second best in most areas and spent much of the game penned back in their own territory.

And Eric Bailly made the Red Devils’ start even worse, by turning Joao Cancelo’s cross into his own net. But the Citizens had two players at the back post waiting for the ball anyway.

Manchester City kept up their pressure before Silva scored their second of the day on the stroke of half-time. Sliding his way into David de Gea’s area and beating the Spaniard at his near post. Catching both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire cold to meet Cancelo’s delivery.

Silva had only scored twice in the Premier League and provided one assist heading into the Manchester derby. Netting against Leicester and Burnley over nine Premier League games.

Manchester City fans laud Silva performance

But Silva delighted some Manchester City fans with his performance against Manchester United. Thrilling, not only with his goal, but his all-round performance at Old Trafford.

The £150k-a-week maestro could have left Old Trafford with more than a single goal to show for his efforts. Forcing De Gea to enter the matrix again to deny him on 34-minutes.

Silva was busy throughout to toy with Solskjaer’s side, beating men across the pitch and exploiting space.

So, here are some of the messages Manchester City fans shared on Silva’s masterclass against Manchester United…
