Originally set to release in Eid 2020, the highly anticipated action film ‘Sooryavanshi’ is finally about to debut in theatres across the world on November 5th.

Whilst the movie is intended to be watched on the big-screen on this Diwali weekend, not every fan will be able or feel comfortable enough, to travel to a theatre and watch it.

Thankfully, there are already reports circulating on social media that reveal where Sooryavanshi will likely be landing, including what date it will release for streaming.

What is Sooryavanshi?

Sooryavanshi is an upcoming Hindi-language action film and is the fourth instalment of director Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, starring fan favourite actors Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn.

The movie tells the story of DCP Veery Sooryavanshi, played by Akshay Kumar, the chief of the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad. In order to stop a catastrophic terrorist attack, Sooryavanshi must team up with Inspector Sangram Bhalerao (Ranveer Singh) and DCP Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn).

Where will Sooryavanshi be streaming?

According to the popular and typically reliable Twitter page LetsOTT Global, the digital streaming rights have been acquired by Netflix.

If the deal between Netflix and the licensors concerns an exclusive streaming deal, fans shouldn’t expect the movie to be made available on other platforms such as Amazon Prime, ZEE5 or Disney Hotstar.

However, neither the Netflix streaming platform nor the producers for Sooryavanshi have publicly confirmed the deal; with more information expected to be shared after the theatrical debut.

Sooryavanshi: Digital streaming release date

At the time of writing, a release date for Sooryavanshi on the Netflix streaming service has not been revealed. However, LetsOTT Global labelled the movie as launching worldwide through the streaming giant for December 5th.

As previously mentioned, the December 5th date has not been officially confirmed, but this would be in accordance with the typical window for content, i.e., release on streaming platforms around four weeks after the theatrical debut.

Earlier this year, the hit films Thalaivii and Bell Bottom utilised the same format, releasing on streaming platforms exactly four weeks after premiering in cinemas.

Based on the available information, fans should therefore not expect the movie to land on either the Amazon Prime Video or Disney Plus Hotstar streaming services.

How is Sooryavanshi being rated?

The Sooryavanshi movie opens today, November 5th, but the film has already made history. According to Deadline, the movie is now considered to be the largest distribution of all time for an Indian project with over 1300 screens set to showcase the film in 66 countries.

Unfortunately, that appears to be where the good news ends; with many of the film critic reviews being notably underwhelming. Koimoi gives Sooryavanshi two out-of-five stars, stating that the movie “shatters the expectations I never had after the 4-minute trailer.”

Similar views are echoed on NDTV, who reports that “the results are at best middling” adding that “some parts of the film are solid, others rather starchy.” Sooryavanshi is, at the time of writing, also scoring a disappointing 6/10 on IMDB.

However, other outlets have been far more positive, with Bollywood Hungama rating Sooryavanshi as 3.5/5 with the movie including all the “stars, scale, action and entertainment” that fans need.

The movie was also labelled as “your Diwali gift this year” by The Hindustan Times that is a “worthy addition to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe.”

This article will be updated as soon as more information on the streaming release of Sooryavanshi is shared by official sources.
