Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been waxing-lyrical about West Ham and in particular Kurt Zouma.

West Ham are playing some absolutely tremendous football right now. They sit fourth in the Premier League table and they look good value for a place in Europe next season.

Declan Rice, Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek get the plaudits on a weekly basis, but Wright has highlighted just how good Zouma has been as of late.

What’s been said?

Wright was hailing Zouma.

“Kurt Zouma looks amazing in that team. He does, honestly, he looks amazing. You looked at him at Chelsea and there was a jittery-ness and there was this sense that you play the ball to him, but now he’s accomplished because he knows he’s a mainstay. He has brilliant coaches there to help him and he’s going to play,” Wright said.

Confidence is everything

Zouma’s recent rise to prominence is yet another sign of how important confidence can be in football.

The Frenchman has always had the talent to be a star. After all, you don’t get signed by Chelsea unless you have something about you, but for one reason or another, he hadn’t been able to showcase that ability on a regular basis.

Can you really blame him though? His place in the Chelsea team was never secure and his loan spells at Stoke and Everton were at clubs in transition periods and relegation battles.

West Ham is finally a settled home for Zouma and he’s able to play with all of the confidence in the world knowing that he’s in the manager’s plans on a weekly basis.
