Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool are working on improving the finer details of their defending to reduce the number of goals they are conceding, via quotes by the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds drew 2-2 with Brighton on Saturday, to end their run of back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League. Liverpool have shut out six sides over their opening 10 games in the top-flight so far this term. But have allowed eight goals in the four they have conceded in.

Additionally, Liverpool have shipped five in three Champions League group stage ties ahead of hosting Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. The Colchoneros followed AC Milan in scoring twice against the Reds during their meeting at the Wanda Metropolitano last month.

Klopp wants to see Liverpool address the way they have conceded goals so far this season in order to improve. Believing the general manner of their defending has been acceptable.

“We talk about it internally when we analyse [the] goals we concede,” Klopp said. “Most of the goals happen because something is not right, and we are working on it. Sometimes you face different problems – we see the game as a complex game. The general thing is okay, but in details we have to improve – that is what we are absolutely working on.”

Are Liverpool struggling that much defensively?

Liverpool still boast the Premier League’s third-best record behind Chelsea and Manchester City for the fewest goals conceded. The Blues have allowed three goals in 10 games, while the Citizens have shipped six. The Reds scored once and twice against both respectively.

Yet Brighton may have felt they could have left with all three-points after coming back from two-goals down on Saturday. Enock Mwepu deceiving Alisson to find the back of the net from 25-yards out, before Leandro Trossard slotted home.

The Seagulls enjoyed further chances to capitalise on an out-of-sorts Reds display at the back. Brighton managed to get in behind on numerous occasions, especially after Naby Keita’s early exit. With the Liverpool backline not always putting up enough of a fight.
