Liverpool are reportedly set to terminate Loris Karius’s contract at Anfield.

The German goalkeeper stayed with Liverpool this season after failing to get a summer move away from Merseyside.

But Karius is nowhere near Jurgen Klopp’s plans and hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the Reds in over three years.

His most recent senior outing came in that Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid in 2018, when he made two horrible errors in a 3-1 loss.

The 28-year-old has had loans with Besiktas and Union Berlin since then but according to The Mirror, Liverpool will let him leave on a free in January.

The report claims that Karius – who earns £25,000 per week – will be allowed to go six months before his contract officially expires.

Logical

This makes sense for all parties.

Let’s face it, Karius is finished at Liverpool and has been since that night in Kiev three-and-a-bit years ago.

There’s no rhyme or reason in Klopp wanting to keep hold of him, with the German boss boasting Alisson, Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher.

By the same token, Karis presumably won’t want to waste another six months of his career as a training dummy for his Liverpool teammates.

He could and should be equally determined to get his football back on track and leaving in January represents a fine chance to do that.
