Newcastle United are considering appointing Leonardo Jardim as their new manager as their search for Steve Bruce’s replacement goes on.
That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Jardim is suddenly a late contender for the Newcastle job.
It’s suggested that PIF now believe that Jardim could be the perfect man to replace Bruce despite him emerging as an option late in the process.
Jardim currently manages in Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal, and has allegedly been put forward to chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan as a potential appointment.
‘Background connections’ between Al Hilal and the Saudi government mean Jardim would be allowed to join Newcastle, possibly even before the international break.
That’s despite Jardim only joining Al Hilal back in June and investing in signings like Moussa Marega and Matheus Pereira.
Jardim could be a coup for Newcastle
The 47-year-old made his name at Monaco, winning 125 of his 233 games in charge between 2014 and 2018.
Jardim won the French league title in 2017, taking Monaco to the Champions League semi-finals in that same season.
Credited with developing the likes of Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Thomas Lemar and Kylian Mbappe, Jardim did a great job at Monaco before leaving in October 2018.
Come January 2019, Jardim was back at Monaco but didn’t see out the year.
Praised as ‘one of the best in Europe’ by former Monaco man Rony Lopes, Jardim has maybe slipped away from the spotlight in recent times.
With a big move to Newcastle, Jardim could turn them into another Monaco, even if it would take time to achieve similar success.
Jardim has done it before, and Newcastle will hope to see him do it again.
