There’s no prizes for guessing who Arsenal’s best player was today.
Aaron Ramsdale produced a masterclass in goalkeeping as Arsenal won 2-0 away to Leicester City this afternoon.
A fast-and-furious start saw the Gunners move two goals ahead in the first half, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Emile Smith Rowe finding the net.
But the Foxes could – and would – have scored just before the break if not for their keeper.
Ramsdale, a £30 million signing this past summer, produced a stunning save to deny James Maddison’s free kick, tipping it on to the bar and then denying Jonny Evans.
Prior to that, the former Sheffield United stopper also got his finger tips to a Kelechi Iheanacho drive, patting it past the post.
For the Maddison save, television cameras panned to Bernd Leno, his number two at Arsenal.
And even the German international looked impressed on the bench, cracking a wry smile in response to his teammate’s form.
Here’s what some fans of the North London club are saying on Twitter:
Destined for the bench
Based on Ramsdale’s heroics today, Leno is destined to ride the bench until January at the earliest.
There’s just not many goalkeepers in the world who could displace the 23-year-old right now and the former Bayer Leverkusen is well aware of that.
It’s going to be a boring couple of months for Leno, but even he must know that the better player is in play right now – and his reaction on the sidelines illustrated that.
